According to Geneva tourism, there are 641 locations in Geneva where one can organize a meeting, whatever the size. That figure is not counting the companies that have additional space.
International Geneva. Genève Internationale. The multi-faceted city of manageable proportions that brings the world together. The capital of peace.
Geneva, has all that a metropolis can offer to host visitors and conferences, as it hosts some of the most important institutions in the world, like the United Nations, and major corporate headquarters. Its location in the center of Europe allows it to be the perfect destination for breaks, vacations or meetings. It has ample security, accessibility, professionalism, modern structures, door-to-door public transport, multilingualism, a 6 minute airport to the city ride (the shortest in Europe) and 8% VAT (the lowest in Europe). Geneva offers various tourist sites in the city itself, and easy access to others in Switzerland and in neighboring countries. Overall, Geneva is an ideal starting point for exploring the rest of Switzerland and even Europe.
For an international city, Geneva is relatively small. Attendees can walk to tourist sites, hotels, shops and conventions easily. Transport is also facilitated by fact that for the VAT paid by guests, a transport card is issued to all hotel guests for the duration of their stay.
Geneva hosts events and major expositions, for example: UN conventions, medical fairs, Vitafoods, Aviation events like EBACE, INDEX for the textile industry, the Davis cup for sports fans, Human Resources fairs, important watchmaking exhibits like SIHH, corporate meetings, and of course the famous Geneva Motor show.
Among locations, Geneva has a wealth of choices. The Centre International de Conférences de Genève (CICG) can accommodate 100-2200 delegates. The biggest venue, Palexpo near the airport, boasts a 106,000 m² pillar-free exhibition space that is divisible into any size, as well as 40 newly refurbished meeting rooms accommodating 10 to 2500 attendees. Additional conference rooms can be built in the seven exhibition halls, and the 21,000 m² park outside the venue is also available to visitors and organizers.
For hotels, there are 118 hotels with the "Swiss touch", of which 33 hotels are categorized between 3-5 stars. The newly refurbished Geneva Youth Hostel in downtown Geneva is located in an area surrounded by 5-star hotels. Geneva even has the largest hotel in Switzerland, with a capacity of roughly 9,000 rooms.
According to the Federal Bureau of Statistics, for 2014, Geneva hotel occupancy increased +0.9 %( +310,000 units) compared to 2013, with foreign visitors increasing by 0.9% as well. That represents the highest figure since 1991.
