Looking for something fun to do this weekend…and as a bonus, for a good cause? Why not head out to the Lac de Joux for the English Speaking Cancer Association’s annual Paddle for Cancer event.
GBN caught up with one of the organizers, Kirsten Stromstad, back in May of this year. Since then, sponsors have committed roughly a quarter of the 100 000 CHF that ESCA hopes to raise by the end of the weekend. 42 teams of about 20 people each (so roughly 900 people…) will race in graceful dragonboats across the lake, each with the hope of taking home the coveted CHALLENGE cup.
Anyone is welcome to come and donate to support their favorite teams. In addition, 23 corporate teams will be racing from companies like Cargill/Alvean and Merck (both Gold members who have participated since the first race in 2007), Bunge, CHUV/Nestlé, Audemars Piguet, CAT, Barclays, IATA, Firmenich, Lenz & Staehelin, Trafigura, BD, Intuitive Surgical, IMD, Accuray, Eaton, HEC MBA Unil, LDC, Beckman Coulter, Cap Group, INEOS, and HFW.
Okay, so the weather might be cooler than the stifling heatwave we've had over the past few weeks. But rest assured, you do NOT have to paddle around in the water if you do not want to (or don’t think you know how). There will be tents and other games, fun activities for kids, lots of food, and a generally good time to be had by all. And most importantly, it’s all for one amazing cause.
