Located in a charming park in Lausanne, the Musée de l’Elysée was established in 1985.
It offers a beautiful view over the lake as well as a unique collection of over 1,000,000 items dedicated to photography. Exhibitions are shown in Lausanne four times a year. It also organizes expositions all around the world in other museums.
Daniel Girardin, the chief curator of the museum, selected 300 photographs in the current exposition Vertical No Limit, Mountain photography.
As the name suggests, the mountain is at the heart of the show, and it is the first exhibition dedicated to the mountain genre. While walking around the museum, you will be able to see different kinds of prints, including photographs resulting from daguerreotype process or ones taken with contemporary digital materials.
Further to this impressive presentation, the museum is also part of a project, that will be launched in 2020, called PLATEFORME 10. This is an industrial zone currently being transformed into an area entirely dedicated to culture. It consists of 22,000 square meters and houses amongst others the Musée de l’Elysée (Museum of Photography), the Mudac (Museum of Design Contemporary Applied Arts) and the Cantonal Fine Arts Museum.
We are eagerly waiting for this project to see the light. In the meantime, when you are visiting Lausanne, do not forget to have a look around the stunning Musée de l’Elysée.
