Rumours have been circulating this year concerning Apple’s latest products and finally the suspense has ended.
The two new additions to the company's line were unveiled this month. They are:
- three new iPhone models available in different sizes, a variety of colours, and at varying starting prices,
- a brand-new 4th generation Apple Watch.
The new iPhones - the 5.8”-screen Xs and a 6.5”-screen Xs Max - will be launched alongside a lower-cost 6.1”-screen XR. The Xs and Xs Max models will be available in a new gold-colored casing, in addition to the previously existing black and white options. The XR will come in a variety of novel shades: lightning yellow, bright red, warm orange, and light blue.
In terms of pricing, the Xs, Xs Max, and XR will respectively start as low as CHF 1,199, CHF 1,299 and CHF 879. Despite being less powerful, the XR does offer a larger screen compared to the Xs (albeit with an LCD display rather than OLED), wrapped in aluminum casing instead of stainless steel.
The Xs and Xs Max both come equipped with a powerful A12 bionic processor and greater Rapid Access Memory (RAM) to handle multiple tasks simultaneously with a clearer image resolution.
The new Apple Watch Series 4 has a wider edge-to-edge curved screen (30 percent larger than the previous model), and slightly slimmer in size while displaying additional face complications. It is equipped with a new chip capable of adding an electrocardiogram (ECG) feature. This could help users monitor their health through precise heart-rate measurements and detect whether they have lost their balance or fallen, thanks to an improved accelerometer and gyroscope. The watch can contact emergency services if there is no response to an alert notification.
The new products are part of Apple’s aim of further breaking into the widely coveted Chinese market, where there is substantial demand for online videos and popular video games that require large screens.
