The SIRHA Fair (International Catering, Hotel and Food Trade Fair) was held from 21 to 23 of January at the Palexpo Convention Centre.
The fair brought together some one hundred exhibitors representing all sectors of the catering industry, including products, equipment and service. The three day event, which includes various competitions, allows industry professionals to network and learn about new gastronomy trends.
The Swiss Bocuse d'Or, a competitive event dedicated to gastronomy, was held on 22 of January, two days after the death of its founder and France's most celebrated chef, Paul Bocuse. He died near Nyon at the age of 91.
The Swiss Bocuse d'Or is held every two years and is judged by twenty-two of the biggest names in gastronomy, lead by the French chef Joël Robuchon, who in 1989 was titled 'Chef of the Century' by the guide Gault Millau. Robuchon, who now lives in Geneva, has restaurants across the world and at the end of 2018 will be opening a restaurant in Geneva's President Wilson Hotel.
Four Swiss chefs, together with their assistants, competed for the Swiss Bocuse d'Or. The winner was invited to the European final - Bocuse d'Or Europe - in Turin in June 2018. Twelve finalists will then be invited to the grand final in January 2019 in Lyon.
